This Site is dedicated to all those families of the people that have tragically disappeared on flights in and around New Zealand. I  only hope that from all the effort in building this site and from all the effort of those taking part in this venture, that it will bear fruit in bringing ‘closure’ to their memories!

Sure does

First image is where I think you most likely first saw it (to the left of white shaded area) and it disappeared behind the hill to the right. It may have been a little more to the right? This is based on the height I have calculated it to have been flying at that stage. The higher it was, the longer you would have seen it and the reverse if it was lower. I know it was dark, and a long time ago, but I'm hoping you still have a vivid memory! If you did see it in this direction and can remember for sure where it first appeared (if you happened to be looking that way at the time) and about where it disappeared behind the hill on the right would be terrific as then I can calculate a much more accurate height that it was flying at that time. The green arrow shown on the second image was the reported wind direction and the white area is showing the white shaded area in the first image, but viewed from above. Of course if I have it totally wrong, please tell me!

Yes that is the direction we seen it last we saw it was the right side of that shade area in the dip in the hill

Not quite sure where you mean... I guess it is where I have placed the "a", but if not, which number is the closest?

Yes on the a

Incredible. Did you hear it for any amount of time after you lost sight of it?

Sorry i can't recall how long after we lost site we heard it for

You saw the lights of the plane. Are you able to describe them? Maybe brightness, colour, steady, flashing... if you can remember?

From what i can remember it was a red light but not sure if it was flashing or solid
