This site is dedicated to all those families of the people that have tragically disappeared on flights in and around New Zealand. I only hope that from all the effort in building this site and from all the effort of those taking part in this venture, that it will bear fruit in bringing ‘closure’ to their memories! Gavin Grimmer
The aircraft went missing on an Airforce navigational training exercise. They departed from Wigram at 8.00 am. It was last seen over Timaru by the crew of another Oxford (NZ264) and contact was made between the two aircraft. 14 minutes later (9.14 pm)NZ264 again made contact with NZ278 and this was the last contact made. NZ278 was never seen again.
