This Site is dedicated to all those families of the people that have tragically disappeared on flights in and around New Zealand. I only hope that from all the effort in building this site and from all the effort of those taking part in this venture, that it will bear fruit in bringing ‘closure’ to their memories!
Gavin Grimmer
remembered that these witnesses are trying to remember an event that happened that
they never realised at the time that they would need to remember it”, and so it is
filled with all kinds of pitfalls in trying to remember what time they saw it...
hence I don’t put a lot of relevance on times given. In other words, you can’t prove
the accuracy/inaccuracy of the Report based on the time given... you can only use
the time as a possible indication.
I don’t know how Don managed to work out that Faukland Hill was to the north east
of Big Ben as shown on his map, as there are no hills anywhere near the height given
in the Report in the area he has placed it. The hill (according to Six Map) is shown
as Faulkland Trig (TS 2036), is in the position of where it is described in the Report,
and is the highest point along that ridge given as 664 meters... according to Google
Earth... and I'd say that height is now recorded as that due to better technology
giving more accurate heights.
Don Readford / Operation Phoenix – Mandy Wilson /Gralyn
Park
Apparently Mandy saw the same plane, but we can’t be sure as there is not enough
details given. The only similarity was it was heading in an easterly direction.

Don Readford / Operation Phoenix – Mr Warner / Monkerai
Not sure where Mr Warner lived as I can find no reference today of a Warner living
in Monkerai and there is no “Main Road” there also, although I think it was meant
Monkerai Road as that appears to be the main road that runs through the area. Note
he said the engine “seemed to be labouring”.
Jesse Miller – H.Flinders / Weismantels

I have noted this Report as being Wiesmantels as this is the area that her house
is in (shown in the image below). As she was driving up the Monkerai Valley on Monkerai
Road, she saw the lights flying south towards her. Monkerai Road is shown as the
orange line and according to all the sightings to this point, means that the area
she saw the lights of the plane coming south towards her had to have been in the
area marked in red. This area looks up the Sugarloaf Creek Valley.
