This Site is dedicated to all those families of the people that have tragically disappeared on flights in and around New Zealand. I only hope that from all the effort in building this site and from all the effort of those taking part in this venture, that it will bear fruit in bringing ‘closure’ to their memories!

We did however, find an old miner’s camp site under a huge rock over-hang and by
using my metal detector found quite a few interesting objects, some of it buried
up to about 18 inches under the ground. I got the impression that if we had excavated
more of the campsite that we could well have found a skeleton as amongst the objects
were a couple of badly rusted away enamel plates, an enamel cup, a cast iron cooking
pot (that had been smashed by a large rock landing on it), and the heads off two
“grubbers” - the sort of things that a miner would not have left behind if he had
moved to another area.
Above the ground was evidence of a later campsite of hunters that we dated by the
objects as probably being sometime in the 70’s. This consisted of empty beer cans,
two aluminum ‘CIBA’ cans, and an “Aero Blast” fly-spray aerosol can, a badly corroded
aluminum pot lid, along with a few other articles.
The fly-spray aerosol used to be used by venison hunters for spraying down the carcasses
of deer to stop the blow-flys from laying their eggs on them.
If anyone reading this knows who these hunters may have been, then please let me
know as they may have information that could help our search.
