This Site is dedicated to all those families of the people that have tragically disappeared on flights in and around New Zealand. I only hope that from all the effort in building this site and from all the effort of those taking part in this venture, that it will bear fruit in bringing ‘closure’ to their memories!

In this image taken off a video on youtube from the Kaipo airstrip, you can see the
saddle although not very clearly, but at least it gives you an idea of the height
and steepness to climb, and the steep approach needed to utilise the full length
of the clearing. The existing airstrip is actually just a track that is barely visible
and probably wasn’t visible in 1962 anyway.

Here’s a collection of youtube links of planes landing there:

Not sure if I will ever be able to check it out as my left hip decided to pack it
in a few months back. It’s been x-rayed but that doesn’t show what the problem is,
so it is now a waiting game to see if it completely heals itself. I’m now 70 years
old and the healing process is slow. I would hate to have my hip fail well up in
the bush on that hill and end up having the Rescue helicopter winch me out.
So if
anyone is keen, I think you would agree, this hill needs to be checked out. Feel
free, but please keep me informed so that I can assist in whatever capacity I can.
If I was younger, I would be in there like a shot!!!
As it has been said in the past, “It is like looking for a needle in a haystack,
but the problem with looking for these missing aircraft is that first you have to
find the haystack!”
My gut feeling is we have finally found the haystack…
