This Site is dedicated to all those families of the people that have tragically disappeared on flights in and around New Zealand. I  only hope that from all the effort in building this site and from all the effort of those taking part in this venture, that it will bear fruit in bringing ‘closure’ to their memories!

Anyway, I obviously was very excited about this and was down at NZ Aerial Mapping first thing on the Monday morning going through there archival photos on the area.

I selected three photos dated 1st March 1949 and one from 1962 as Chris believed Trevor came across the wreck in the 60’s. I wanted to determine how much bush there was in that area at the time. This would help me to know what the area was that we would need to search.

I must point out at this point that NZ Aerial Mapping have been very helpful to me over the last few years.and this is very appreciated.  I would have thought by now that they would have recommended me to the looney bin!

When the photos (in digital form) were ready, I cropped them down to the area that I wanted to search and overlaid them on Google Earth.

Below is a snapshot from Google Earth of one of them.

If you look closely at just over half way up the base of the cliff face, you will see a white object that really stands out, even though it is in the shade. - Remember ZK-AJV was painted bright yellow.

I measured this object with the measuring tool on Google Earth (GE) and it was very close to the actual measurements of a Tiger Moth - Length 23’11” and wingspan 29’4”.

This was not the area that I believed at the time that Chris had described as being the area that Trevor Crabtree had pointed to.

I thought he meant the area of bush to the right of the cliff face shown on the above image - which is known as Frasers Bush, so I was very surprised to see this here, and it being so clear.
