This Site is dedicated to all those families of the people that have tragically disappeared on flights in and around New Zealand. I  only hope that from all the effort in building this site and from all the effort of those taking part in this venture, that it will bear fruit in bringing ‘closure’ to their memories!

Knowing that photos (or Google Earth) never do justice to actually being there, on the 20th May, 2012, I rode my motorbike over and met Gary at that Junction and it was immediately obvious what Gary was trying to say. Unfortunately the road only leads into that valley from the eastern side of the river and not in the line of where you would need to be if flying down the river, so it was very difficult to get a shot of what I am trying to display, but I will try to portray it here using a panorama photo:

The valley to the left (Te Hoe River) when flying down the Mohaka, is wide and at first glance appears as if this is the way the River flows, whereas to the right it doesn’t initially look as though it goes anywhere at all!

To the right the Mohaka River winds through a very narrow cutting that would be very hard to see if flying down there in the murk. In this lower photo on the left, you can see the ‘vee’ of the valley, but at a higher altitude it would look like a ‘solid’ face on the range. Unfortunately, I was not able to find a position suitable to get a photograph to portray this.
