This Site is dedicated to all those families of the people that have tragically disappeared on flights in and around New Zealand. I  only hope that from all the effort in building this site and from all the effort of those taking part in this venture, that it will bear fruit in bringing ‘closure’ to their memories!

The "vent", (shown on a photo below) or whatever it is, is directly above this possible entrance and this "vent" shows up on all the photos I have so far - from 1950 to 2000 (1940 is too blurry to see, and it was gone by 2009), so it must have been a permanent fixture, whatever it is. It does appear like the description of the vents in “Tunnel Vision” page 173 – “had mushroom-like tops on them”. However, I do note that it doesn't show in the 1945 photo (previously shown in this article). I do accept that it may just be a concrete “bird bath” as they were quite popular when I was younger.

The Railway Line

A few of the Reports said that there was a railway line coming off the wharf and going into this tunnel and there is evidence of this in some of the photos.

In the 1939 photo (next page), you can see a heavily worn area turning towards the cliff face.
